Inventor - Inventions
The Cochran I.V. Splint
Manufacturer by: Jorgensen Laboratories
Small animal veterinarians are often
confronted with the problem of
adminstering a continuous or uninterrupted
IV drip to an unattended patient. The
cephalic vein is easily occluded when
an animal is in a sternal position with
elbow in flexion. The patented Cochran
IV Splint is the first product that allows
the animal to lie comfortable and still ensure
a continuous IV flow. This IV splint will enable
a practitioner to extend the patency and
longevity of an IV catheter and administer a
more continuous and even flow of IV fluids to
critically ill patients.
Over 26,000 sold. Estimates of
28K - 32K veterinary practices in
the USA.
When the editors of Veterinary Forum magazine came to me asking do an article about my IV Splint I was surprised. I also felt priveleged to have my photo along side of two other very innovative veterinarian-inventors on the cover.
Cochran Bisecting Angle Dental X-ray Positioner
Designed for use with non-screen dental film.
Since the parallel technique cannot be used on
the upper teeth in dogs and cats due to their
relatively flat hard palate, the bisecting angle
technique must be used to attain proper
geometric image formation on the film image, in
other words, the size of the crown of the tooth
appears in proportion to the size of the root.
This device accurately finds the bisecting angle
and permits an exactly correct image to be attained.
Veterinarian - General Practitioner

Veterinary Technology Program
Department Chairman-Program Director Portland Community College
My role was a full-time instructor, Department Chairman, and the USDA Attending
Veterinarian as we were considered a research facility because we kept animals on
premises (even though we did no research at all). I taught Veterinary Medical Terminology,
Anatomy & Physiology, Radiography, Anesthesiology, Surgical Assisting, Small and Large
Animal Diseases, and Special Procedures, like electrocardiography.
